St Louis World's Fair and Zoo

We had planned to go to the Festival of the Little Hills in St. Charles last weekend. It started at 9:30, and by the time we got there around 9:50 parking was already full at Frontier Park, so we decided to skip it and went to Forest Park for the St. Louis Worlds Fare [sic] instead.
"The 1904 Olympics were held at the Fair, the third modern Olympics and the first held in America.
President Roosevelt attended the Fair on November 26, 1904.
The World's Fair Pavilion was not built for (or during) the Fair. It was built with proceeds from the Fair in 1909-10 during the Park's restoration."

"The great 264' Ferris Wheel was first used at the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair. It had 36 wooden cars, each holding 60 people, for a total capacity of 2160. Rides cost 50 cents. No one knows for sure if the Ferris Wheel's 70-ton, 45-foot axle was taken away after the wheel was destroyed for scrap, or is still buried on the Fairgrounds."

After a quick look at the booths and World's Fair Pavilion, we walked to the zoo across the street.

Steve got to say 'hi' to two of his friends, the jaguar and the tiger, both relaxing in the shade while watching all the silly humans walking around in the near-100 degree heat.

Tiger was waiting by the gate.  Her ice block melted and she wants another!

The hippopotami were staying underwater in the heat.

We didn't see the polar bear out on this visit.  This was last year in March when it enjoyed a nap in chilly weather.

I brought Shu's students from China, who came to visit and attend her JL Moreno Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the American Society of Group Psychotherapy & Psychodrama.

I like to see the sea lions swimming around the aqua tunnel.
