Corpse Flower

The Missouri Botanical Garden opened last night from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Free admission to view the blooming of the Corpse Flower (Amorphophallus titanum).
巨花魔芋,又名屍花。花序會散發出腐肉的味道。隔幾年才開花,所以植物園昨晚特别開放,免費觀賞。

We got there around 8:15, and (for those familiar with the Garden) the line already went out of the Linnean house, up the wheelchair ramp by the restaurant, past the fountain, and up and around the wheelchair ramp to the right of the exit from the Ridgway Visitor Center.

Even though the notice, 3 hours before they opened, was short notice, it still drew many visitors.

It took us 25 minutes to get in. Ah... we can smell the 'corpse' when as we came closer to the flower.
A lady in a Chinese family behind us said to her family in Mandarin: "Hmm.. what does this smell like? It might smell a little like durian."
I turned my head and told her, "No, no, no!"
How dare she say it smells like durian!

By the time we left, around 9 p.m., the line was back into the Ridgway Center, down the steps, and out the front door. Apparently, people really like very large, stinky flowers.

I got there around 9:30. Line was about 300 feet long outside the front entrance. It took about 1.5 hours to get to the flower.
